The Experimental Psychology unit at
Ruhr-Uni Bochum investigates basic emotional processing in visual word recognition and memory retrieval. Thus, we are exploring the variables influencing reading emotional words and neutral words by means of different neurocognitive approaches to examine the  temporal (EEG) and spatial (fMRI)  neural processes involved and the depending psychphysiological measures (Pupillary Responses, Skin Conductance, Heart Rate).

eeg - early effect of positive valence

Afurther goal of this kind of research is to test and extend recent
computational models of visual word recognition by adding emotional or semantic units to them (e.g. AROM, MROMe).
