Multiplexing of Visual Space and Orientation in Primary Visual Cortex                        





 



























Upper Video: Propagating activity in response to a grating moving either rightwards (left frame) or downwards  (right frame) in the visual field. Only oscillatory activity components are shown here. Note that activity for the rightward moving stimulus appears propagating in leftward direction  because rostral is at bottom (right hemisphere, M=medial, P=posterior).

Lower Video: The above propagating waves of activity are shown overlaid on tonic activity components representing the orientation maps. Hence, these stationary maps encode the orientation of the grating simultaneously to its motion. Black outlines are drawn at 90th activity percentiles of the tonic components.
