There are a lot of baits for
Carp. With all of them you will catch Carp although some will catch other
fish too.
This category includes all kinds of
bait that are not manmade and can be used without further
preparation. As an example there are :Excellent bait if you spot a feeding
Carp. You can throw some as freebies in his way and cast a hook on a
small float to it.There are three kinds of maggots used for fishing ,Gozzers
Squatts and Pinkies, Gozzers are the big fat juicy ones that Carp will
take. Squatts and Pinkies are small and very small
In my opinion you can only use the first kind for Carp
fishing, because the others are to small.Worms are a good bait for spotted fish
too.You can use it like maggots or cast it freeline in the path of the
Carp. There are three kinds of worms to be used for
fishing.- Tauwurm
Big worm about 15-20cm long
- Laubwurm
smaller one than the Tauwurm about 5-15cm
long. - earthworm
small worm about 5cm long
All these
worms are good for spotted fish but I would prefer the Tauwurm because
of it´s size or the earthworm because of it´s smell. Mussels are an excellent bait if they are
naturally known to the Carp. You can use all kind of mussels as
bait. You can buy them in the supermarkets and use them as they
are.You can fish them like boilies and also
prebait with them. But I would prefer to fish them in a located
mussel bed, here you don´t have to prebait and the Carp won´t be
suspicous to your hookbait because it´s what they expect to feed on
here.If the water you fish
contains a lot of crayfish they will be a good bait. But it must be
clear to you that there will be a lot of other fish hunting for
crayfish. For example eels, but I won´t be sad to catch a big eel
instead of the expected Carp, if it´s big enough. This part deals with the different
kinds of particles.By particles I mean all the seeds you have to soak
before use. There are two main kinds of corn used for bait.Sweet corn and
field corn, there is a third type used but its like the field corn to
use the only difference is that it is much bigger, because of genetic
manipulation I think.Sweet corn is soft and a bit smaller than field
corn, and you can buy it ready for use in the supermarket. But field corn
you have to soak for about at minimum 6 hours and then boil them for
half an hour. You can also use the "Oat method". For this method you
put the corn into water and let it soak and then ferment .But be careful
with the neighbours they may dislike the smell.
This seed has to be soaked over night you can
add flavouring and colouring to the water.Because they accept
flavour very well and the less smell is also good for it but therefore
don´t use chic peas above mud it will accept this smell as
well. After soaking them boil them for 20 minutes or half an
hour.
Peanuts are an
exellent particle bait for Carp. They simply love the taste of
it Therefore be careful when you use it,don´t feed too much of it
because the carp will then only feed on peanuts and become sick and
gain weight;so don´t prebait to heavily.Soak them for 12 hours because
there are everytime some that will float. After soaking boil them for
15 minutes up to half an hour.
This is an other good and selective
particle for Carp. They stay hard when you boil them Soak them for 12 hours and afterwards boil them for
one hour. You will have to use a nutdrill to bait it.
A good alternative
to other particles.Soak them for about 6 hours and then boil them for 15
minutes. You can easily flavour them by adding some flavour to the
water.I think you can also buy them ready made in the
supermarket. That´s an easy to use bait. You can buy them in every
supermarket ready for use. It´s a different bait so when your water is
fished with a lot of particle this may help you to catch more
Carp. A good bait for
fishing about mud because the maples don´t accept any kind of smell
Let them sokk for about 6-12 hours and boil them. It´s a small bait like
hemp.
That is a small particle bait. It´s very
good for carp, but you may have problems with roach and other
fish;they like it too.Soak them for 12 hours and boil them until you see
the white. To bait it you will have to use Bogey glue or other
similar stuff Specials are all baits that have to be
prepared before use .There are some baits that may sound strange but
they catch Carp. And it will be good to have some strange bait to be
different from the other Carp fishermen. You can use all kind of cheese as
bait. It´s easy to vary the form,so when you want to be different from
the other Carpers thats important. The best way to use it as bait is over
a bed of particles especially hemp. Meat is a strange bait, but it catches
fish. You can use every meat you want, but the best results are usually
achieved by luncheon meat or corned beef. You can use them raw or
backen.Best results will be achieved above a bed of hemp
again. Bread is a good
bait for spotted fish, especially as flake that is But it is also good for surface fishing and on a
float. The only problem will be that other fish may be faster if
you´re fishing for not spotted fish. By paste I mean everything you mix
together and form a soft and smooth dough , by adding water, milk or
eggs to it.You can mix everything you can imagine and want to add
together. For example breadcrumbs, cheese, meat, jam or pudding. You can
also add flavour and colour to it. Paste is,next to boilies the most
variable bait you can use. Boilies are the bait most Carp anglers
use ,because they are very selective for Carp.It is also possible to
change them like you want or need. There are 4 main types of boilie
mix. This type of mix consists
mostly of casein, lactalbumin, egg albumin, soyaflour and other stuff like
that. The mix will produce good round boilies and it´s possible to use
every flavour and colour you want. This mix should be a carbohydrate
based mix It contains different kinds of birdseed like Robin Red,PTX
or others; you can also use any other birdseed you want. The seeds are
crushed and mixed with corn flour, soya flour and semolina to make it
stick together. You may have problems to make round boilies, but no
problem just add more semolina or soya flour to the mix.You will
also have to use more than 6 eggs per 500g of mix. It´s a good
alternatrive to the other mixes because it has totally different
structure and contents. This type of mix consists mostly of fish meal. Some
other ingredients are soya flour and casein. You don´t have to add
flavour to it,but a fruit flavour may bring suprising results.Use 6 eggs
per 500g. It´s a good catching mix and it´s also good for the Carp
and their growth. The same mix as the fish mix but instead of fish meal
the main ingredients is meat meal and blood meal. It is a good
alternative to the fish mix and it´s a different mix that will catch
well in heavily fished waters. Flavour and their
choiceThere are at least three different types of
flavour. - Ethyl Alcohol
- Glycerol
based
- Oils including Essential Oils
Ethyl
AlcoholThe flavour is based on ethyl alcohol. It´s very soluble
in water and therefore a very good choice in cold water. but that is
also a disadvantage because when you boil the boilies the flavour is
also very soluble. You can combat this by using some more flavour or
by flavouring them a second time after boiling or you simply use a
dip. Glycerol basedThis kind of flavour is also good
soluble in water but at low tempretures not as good as the Ethyl
flavour. when you boil the boilies it will also be soluble in the
water but not as much as the Ethyl flavour, therefore it´s not
necessary to use more flavour or flavour them a second time Oils
and Essential OilsThis kind of flavour is not soluble in water
and should not be used in cold water without an emulsifier. It´s a
good flavour type for the summer and in general warm water. You don´t
have much problems when you boil your bait the amont of flavour
soluble in the water is very low and therefore it is absolutely not
necessary to flavour them a second time. Some words about the amount
to be used in your bait.In general don´t use more than listed on the
bottle. Normally you should use less than that,in my opinion 3ml per
500g will be good for most flavours.Only for Ethyl alcohol flavour 4ml
would be better. The essential oils are extracts of plants and fruits and
are highly concentrated You have only to use some drops per 500g
These flavours can divided into three groups
- Fruit
- Fish and Meat
- Cream
flavour
FruitThis type of flavour contains
nearly every fruit you can imagine and some that are not
natural. It´s mostly ethyl alcohol and glycerol and therefore good to
use in winter, although in my experience sometimes a fish flavour
works better;this kind works pretty well the whole year. Fish and
MeatA good choice in winter and autum but there is one
problem. It´s mostly oil flavours and therefore not soluble in winter
water. But an emulsifier will do the trick , there are some glycerol
based flavours and these are really successful. Cream
flavourThe Carp love this type of taste. This type often is a
combination of a fruit flavour and the cream component. It´s mostly
ethyl or glycerol based and therefore good all over the year.
